What a Friend We Have in Jesus

**My Dad (Camille's) is an artist ~
he used pencil to draw these praying hands while a Bible School student in 1964 ~
It was a gift to us from my Dad a few years ago and it is very precious to us both.

This is one of my favourite hymns ~
might it be a blessing to your heart as it is to mine!

What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged:
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful,
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness:
Take it to the Lord in prayer!

Are we weak and heavy laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour, still our refuge ~
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms He'll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.

Joseph Scriven (1819-1886)

Hi Camille,
What a beautiful drawing and how special for you to have that and keep it in the family. Oh how I would love to have something my father made.
I hope you have a wonderful Lord's day tomorrow.

Dear Christa ~ I am thankful that he shared it with us! I have copies of many of his other drawings, but this is the original. May the Lord bless you tomorrow too my friend! :)

Dear Susan ~ Thank you! This hymn was running through my head awhile back...it is beautiful, isn't it? I especially was struck with the "take it to the Lord in prayer" phrase...we are so blessed to have HIM aren't we? :)

Camille,

What a precious present from your father! It's just beautiful. Makes me think of Jesus interceding for us. This hymn is also precious to many around the world, translated into many languages.
