Cool Delight ~ Chocolate Shell Coating

Ever wonder how to make the coating for dipped cones without
all the scary "extras" that come in the bottled varieties?
I stumbled on this idea in the comment section of a friend's blog.
It didn't take long to get me experimenting.

The Results?

A "recipe" that is really very simple and sooooo yummy!
Without all the guilt (or at least less of it) ~
No need to buy the bottled stuff ever, EVER again!

AND it's so E.A.S.Y.

~ Homemade Chocolate Shell ~

Take 1/2 cup of chocolate chips and melt slowly over
very low heat in a heavy saucepan on the stove.
Stir in 2 Tbsp. of coconut oil (I use organic, cold-pressed).

**You MUST use coconut oil ~ do not substitute anything else.**

The coconut oil is what will make the coating harden up.
When melted and mixed together ~ but not HOT ~
pour over your dish of ice cream and let set for about a minute.
This amount of sauce will serve four fortunate guests quite nicely.
If you like LOTS of topping,
you might want to increase this recipe accordingly.

ENJOY!

Sounds good and easy. Thanks for sharing.

Yum!

Another fun ice cream tip is to melt some peanut butter. When it is in liquid form, pour over your cold ice cream...it will then harden up in a minute or two. This is very yummy over chocolate ice cream!

OH MY. We love us some chocolate shell!!! I'll be making this for sure. I must leave Michelle at She Looketh Well a comment regarding this - she asked me to let her know if I found a healthier alternative to the bottled magic shell. You've found the answer! :)

I am so glad you posted this. I love chocolate shell on my ice cream but I never buy it because of the bad ingredients. I have chocolate chips and coconut oil! Yummy. This will be a nice treat for our Independence Day celebration this weekend.
Thank you so much Camille.

P.S. I haven't had much time to post on my blog. I've been canning, decorating a wedding cake, gardening... Just in case you're wondering. :)

Dear Barbara ~ Such a simple dessert for those hot summer days. At the moment I'm wondering when those hot days will be appearing, but I'm sure they will, and when they do ~ I will be prepared! :)

Oh this sounds really good..You know what, I use organic extra virgin unrefined coconut oil as a moisturizer for my face...true!!!.. But back to topic...does it matter if the coconut oil is refined or unrefined? Probably not...but I wanted to ask anyway :) :) Happy eating!!!! Love and hugs, Heather :)

Dear Heather ~ The coconut oil I have is extra virgin unrefined and cold pressed...how's that for an answer! :) I don't know if it matters ~ refined or unrefined, but the kind I used IS unrefined. I hope you enjoy it!

Dear Michelle ~ YAAY...I hope you all like it! You could even use organic chocolate chips...it's sounding almost HEALTHY, isn't it?? LOL! :)

Blessings to you both,
Camille

This looks good!

Can you eat it at room temp, or does it need to be refrigerated first?

Camille,
I'm glad you shared this. I love this kind of chocolate coating, and I know this would be much healthier than what I buy in the store. Can't wait to give it a try!

Dear Sharon ~ LOL...ANYTHING goes!! I hope you like it! :)

Dear Jackie ~ The ice cream is cold and the topping goes on right after the ice cream has been scooped. The topping needs to be a bit melty in order to spread and the cold ice cream will harden it in a minute or two...no need for refrigeration. Enjoy! :)

Dear Trisha ~ I am so glad you are glad! I hope you find it satisfactory. :)

Blessings,
Camille
