Renovating the System

Our old system wasn't working.
It needed to be renovated.

I gave my Sweetie a roughly scrawled note
with ideas for
responsibilities the children
could carry out.

And he transformed it into this...

I added my *two cents worth*.
I *tweaked* it.
Together we added some colour.

We are in the early days
of implementation.
How sweet it is!

Would you like to share what works for
you in your home?
I'd enjoy reading your ideas.
Maybe some of them will be included
in our next renovation. :)

Many blessings,
Camille

I like your colourful chart Camille - each having their own colour is a great idea, they can see at a glance the days they are on 'duty.' I also like the title you chose for your chart - all about teaching them responsibility, it's not a 'chore' chart. I really don't like the word chore as it conveys drudgery.
I have found that now my children are older a chart isn't working because there are often days when they are not here - today is a prime example, my two older teens have been out all day working at their market stalls. They are very enterprising and hardworking and other people have been keen to employ them because of their strong work ethics. I remind them often that their work experience began in the home and is bringing them rewards. So now the younger ones have to step up to the mark. I may lose a few dishes to the tiled floor when a 5 year old clears tables but that's fine because they love to help, even my youngest at 21 months loves putting the cutlery on the table and regards it as his job so I don't mind if the forks are not exactly straight!

Camille, that looks wonderful. Love all the colors. It reminds me of MOTH just not scheduled. I guess that's what I need most is a schedule...you do this at this time otherwise it's midnight and someone is going "uh-oh I forgot too."

I like the buddy system, older children teaching younger children. Like the 10 yr old helping the 7 yr old with flashcards or the 16 yr old being in charge of the littles PE time. That worked really well.

To manage it all I put it all together on the MOTH form and tack it on my fridge and call it good.

Good visiting you this morning~ Cinnamon

That looks amazing! I like the color coded chart. It must really make a difference.

I just have a chart typed up that has a list of the kids chores under their name. The chores are pretty much the same every day, except for sweeping and mopping.

Hello sweet friend :)

Wow, you are SO organized. That's wonderful that you and your honey put that together. I bet it works great. Sorry I have no input to help other than this:
" And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men;" Colossians 3:23

Have a most blessed weekend in Him Camille :) Thank you for your prayers :)

This looks great! I have a similar chart except I don't have children so I am the only helper on the list! I have to chart my cleaning chores because I work full time and have lots of responsibilites outside of work. I have daily chores, weekly chores, and monthly chores. Daily chores get done in the evening after everything else. I also keep a planner that I carry with me everywhere. I admire Moms like you who have so much to keep track of and seem to get it all done! I have no idea how some Mom's can work full-time and get everything else done adequately. I think they must run themselves ragged. Something or someone has to give. Anyway, thanks for sharing!

I love your weekly schedule, Camille...how neat to have your husband's help too.

I "had" a list similiar to yours but it has gone walkabouts. :-(

We implement household chores and outdoor chore schedules, too! It's a great learning tool and it helps spread out the responsibility. I liked your chart!

Dear Jennifer ~ LOL! You are one terrific encourager my friend! We are working it all out...one day at a time. :)

Dear Ann ~ How precious it is that your little man is in on the action! What wonderful tools for life you are teaching your young ones. God is so Good too us, isn't He? :)

Dear Cinnamon ~ What a blessing that you have a schedule in place and that your older ones teach the younger ones...such richness in that!! We are in the process of *passing the torch*...and, as a result, there is some sibling teaching going on around here too. :)

Dear Stacie ~ I like your system too...especially when the children are younger. It is good to have one child assigned to one task day after day...I found that it really streamlines things. You know who is responsible, and they know the job well. Our children did things that way for years...it was just time for us to switch it up a bit. They like this *new* system. :)

Dear Karen ~ Thank you sooo much my friend! :)

Dear Sharon ~ How sweet you are! Thank you for that wonderful verse...how true it is!! We are working out all the *kinks* and have not even completed one full week doing this, so don't be too impressed. ;-)

Dear Stephani ~ It's lovely to *meet* you. Thank you for stopping by and for leaving an encouraging comment. :) Oh...I don't *get it all done* as you put it...there is so much left over! But, the basics are being shared among us...what a blessing. I agree with you...how do the Moms who are working outside the home get it *all* done??!! Hang in there with all you have on your plate! It sounds like you are doing a great job with it all. :)

Dear Julia ~ Awww...your sayings are so fun...*walkabouts* is not something we say here in Canada...*love* it! :) Maybe the kids hid it on you?? ;-)

Dear Jenn ~ How wonderful that your children are growing up knowing that they are contributors to the running of your home...they will be better off for it!! Yippee for *in house* help!! :)

Many blessings to you each one!
In HIS Love,
Camille

Camille,
I love the ChorePacks. They work really well for us. Your system looks very efficient, too, my friend. Great job!!

Wooowee! That looks like you've got one well-oiled machine there. I've been *saying* for weeks now that getting our chore system going is my *next* project. I have the Managers of Their Chores book and I've been working on getting the basics for our chores hammered out too. So nice to see that as the kiddos get older they'll be able to share more thoroughly in responsibilities. Thanks for sharing this one!
Love & Blessings,
Tami
(I've had a great time catching up on your blog tonight!)

Dear Tami ~ How GOOD it is to hear from you!! LOL...a *well-oiled machine*?? Nope...but definitely a *work in progress* and things are going in the right direction around here. We have only implemented this *new* system recently and already see areas that it needs revamping. Yes, indeed...the children can do sooo much! But, enjoy these precious days with your Little Ones...they grow soooo quickly!!

Much Love,
Camille
