The Compare Snare

It's a trap we often fall into ~
the compare snare.

Why don't I have it as easy as they do?
Why is my child rebellious while their's is obedient?
Why is there sickness in our home and not in their's?
Why do they get to go away somewhere tropical year after year,
while we stay home and never go away at all?

Why do I drive an old, broken-down vehicle while

others have not only one, but, two new ones?
Why have we been given such a small home
while family so-and-so has a much larger one with less children?
Why don't I have a home, or husband, or children at all?

It's easy to do, isn't it?

Constantly asking ~ Why?  Why?  Why?

Really, what we are saying is that God's plan
for us is not as good as His plan for someone else.
They get all the roses while we get all the thorns.
The grass is always greener.

It's a fact. Right?  Wrong!

The Lord, when dealing with His disciples, addressed this very thing.
And, you know what He did?  He discouraged the practice.
We are not to compare!  It's none of our business
how He deals with someone else.
(See John 21:21-23)

None at all.

If you look closely, you will see the bird ~
safe among the thorns.

How amazing it is to think that we are

exactly where our Loving Heavenly Father means for us to be.
Recently, I read something from Spurgeon in which he
stated that whatever happens in our lives is a prescription.
It, whatever "it" is, has been prescribed for us.

Directly from HIS Loving hand.

We are not to run from whatever He gives.

We are to ask for grace in it.
And, ask for His strength to deal with it.
We are to seek Him for the faith to see His hand
in every situation and circumstance.
And, ask for wisdom to know the way forward.

He promises to lead.

We are not to run, but, to yield.

His ways truly are best.
Comparing our lives with others is never wise.
It's never productive.  It only hurts and destroys.

It turns our eyes inward rather than upward.

We cannot do this in our own strength.

We need Him each step of the way.
May HE continually give us eyes to see.
And, hearts to believe.
That we might bring praise to HIS Holy Name.
(See Philippians 4:8-20)

With love,

Camille

Very thought provoking post, Camille.
I'm afraid that I've been guilty of this very thing lately.
Thanks for sharing.

When the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence~there are weeds and sand burrs or thorns that we do not see. Such timely words. Thank you for sharing

Excellent post Camille and oh so true! It always seems easier to compare to others instead of giving thanks for what God has already blessed us with! :)

Hope all is well with you and your family!

Love & Blessings,
Nadine

Thank you for this. I try to tell my kids when they are talking about the parties their friends have and the things (extra) that their friends get to do or have that I will happily go to work so that you can do and have those things. They ALWAYS tell me that no, they want me home with them when they get out of school. It is hard for me too I must confess. Friends are always talking about their adventures, trip and things. But what really matters is relationships first with our Lord and then with others.

Dear Lisa ~ Thank you for stopping by and for your encouraging words. I hear your heart as it mirrors mine...I believe it's common. I was praying for you this morning...the LORD knows and HE cares!! How precious the thought! Love to you all. :)

Dear Marci ~ How true it is! We all have trials and things to bear...very often no one knows about them all! But, the LORD knows, and HE does all things well. What a precious thing it is to belong to HIM! :)

Dear Nadine ~ You hit the nail right on the head my friend...giving thanks is the best way to make those thoughts of comparison flee! We truly have so much to be thankful for, don't we? For starters, we are not in Hell...that puts all things in perspective, don't you think? :)

Dear Leanna ~ How precious it is that your children want you there, and that you are there for them!! What beautiful memories you are building...the LORD is so Good! Thank you for stopping by! :)

Many Blessings,
Camille

Very true Camille. When we constantly look to the greener grass we will never be happy with what we have. Our kids dont need to look far to mimic their parents if we do it. Counting ones blessings is all part and parcel of sharing in the Goodness of the Lord which lifts us up and makes us rejoice His name out loud!

God brought me here today - quite by accident [not]!! Nothing HE does is random but always with purpose and with intention. He is GOOD and His plans for us are also GOOD.... we just have a limited viewpoint. Sometimes HE must take us to the mountain with HIM - as He did with Moses, with Peter, James and John, with Abraham - the place we can get a glimpse from the DIVING PERSPECTIVE. There all the pieces of the puzzle fit into one glorious picture and plan! REST your hope THERE@! Love the photos of this post and how well they speak of this subject! We are safe within His arms no matter what entangles around us!

XOXO

Dear Pippa ~ You are so right, my friend! Our children will mimic us...what a good thing to remember! Indeed...rejoicing in our Great God is the answer! He truly does all things well. :)

Dear Stephanie ~ What a great blessing it is to remember Who we belong to! HE holds us so gently in His hands, and He leads us so lovingly along...praise His Wonderful Name!! May you know His keeping Hand upon you my friend. :)

Excellent reminder. God's plans for our lives look different. If we except His plan and give ourselves to it obediently, we will be blessed, maybe not in material wealth but in treasures that are better than that.

Dear Jackie ~ Yes, it's true...the treasures that await far exceed anything we may have here in this life. Truly, the LORD does all things well.

Blessings to you!
