Meal Plan Update

Winter cooking is in full swing around here.
My winter meal plan has been put to good use in the last few months.
I'm loving this new system.  Two seasons in, it's a win.

As is evident from the photo below, I've made notes to myself along the way.
One of the things I wanted to figure out was the per person
cost for meals on my list.  It was an eye-opening exercise.

Some meals I had considered to be frugal weren't.
Others surprised me with their frugal-ness
once the numbers were crunched and the final tally made

Figuring this out has helped when I've wanted
to stretch our food budget just a little further.
I'm not sure why I hadn't thought of doing this before.

So, there you have it.  Tweaking things as well as the
addition or subtraction of meals has been going on around here.
But, the concept of a list to work from is still in vogue.
I'm sold on the concept of it all.

And, meal planning week by week has become a whole
lot simpler since implementing this system.

Do you have any frugal (and nourishing) meal ideas to share?
I'm always up for trying something new and adding to the list.
Thank you to all of you who shared ideas on my soup post.
It was fun to try some of them out.  You bless my heart!  :)

Before too long, it will be spring once again,
and the summer plan will be re-employed.  Yippee!

Happy Cooking!
With Love, Camille

Hi Camille,

I'm the same as you I like writing everything out and comparing prices, etc. I like putting recipes on my calendar in my planner and making it easy to change and replan them when I want to. Then it's all in one place. :-) How are things there? Keeping warm this Winter? Always enjoy your posts! Take care.

Blessings,
Jill

Great ideas! It's been a while since I've figured out the cost of meals. It is eye opening, isn't it? It seems like meal planning and preparing can be a full time job around here at times. Good thing I have a place to go for great ideas! :-)

Jill ~ It was a real eye-opener when I figured out the per person cost of meals I regularly make. I still have more to break down in that way...one by one. What fun that you have a similar system. :) We are well and warm...thank you for asking! I trust you and your family are doing well, too? Hugs. :)

Esther ~ Ah, yes...eye-opening for sure! It was surprising to discover some of my frugal meals actually weren't. As for meal planning, shopping, and making...yes, it can be a full time job!! And, that is from my perspective with only five of us. Hugs to you! :)

Wow, I've never actually done that. I know soups are super frugal, but it is frustrating because my daughter absolutely hates soup and goes to bed hungry every time we have it because she refuses to eat it. My husband is a meat lover and I can't get away with anything that doesn't have meat in it. Cooking from scratch seems to be the best way for us to save money. Hopefully we can start growing our own meat and eggs one of these days. That might help. Not buying a lot of snacks and making them instead also helps with our food budget tremendously, plus it is just so much healthier as you know. Great post!
