Organizing Life!

Want to know what's been going on in our school this week?

An overhaul!

Here are the new schedules ready to be put to use!

Oh dear me...how much more we get accomplished in our home when we have a list and a plan. I suppose we are all similar in that respect. After all, God is a God of ORDER. I have found that I am simply unable to function efficiently WITHOUT a set schedule.

Having said all the above, I DO appreciate that there are as many variations on homeschool as there are homeschooling families...PLEASE DO NOT feel as though you have to do it this way! God has us all in different SEASONS of life as well ~ keep in mind that I do not have a nursing baby anymore...'nuff said! Some days I wish I was more of a "relaxed" kind of girl, but I was not created that way...I find that STRESSFUL!! ;-)

During the fall semester the boys were following a daily routine and list of duties, but that system was in need of tweaking ~ THESE new schedules are the result. I do realize that even those of us who do best in a set routine must be flexible to allow LIFE to happen ~ After nearly four years of doing this, I am at least grasping the wisdom of that! Ultimately, God is in control of ALL things...and that includes THE SCHEDULE! :)

Are you a "schedule" Mum ~ or do you like to take life as it comes?

Wanting What I Have said...

schedule, schedule, schedule!!! but, thanks to my better half, I'm learning to rejoice more in taking life as it comes. :)

J ~ Oh for balance...in ALL things! Isn't God gracious to have given us "better halves"?? :)

Oh, can I please be more like you?
Thanks for the new music for my evening listening pleasure :)

Heather ~ I'm glad you are enjoying the music...I pick it up along the way...very easy once you begin. LOL...I don't think you want to be more like me...I CONSTANTLY need Grace to do anything good...humbling really!

Oh I like to have a loose idea of what to accomplish each day but like to keep it flexible.

Manuela ~ I think I will probably revert back to that when all our children are done school ~ I find the schedules really help to keep us (me) on track. :) Thanks for stopping by ~ have a lovely weekend!

I think I'm somewhere in between. I have certain subjects I feel I have to cover in day (Math, reading and spelling), but I'm flexible as to what time of the day we homeschool. I like to adjust around appointments, play dates, long weekends out of town, etc. I don't worry about "teaching" History, geography and science at this age because he is learning all those things in everyday life.

I am a big time planner... but spontaneous as well :)

Jackie ~ I agree with you...there are those core subjects and they do get lots of the "extras" in everyday life. It is all about change...life is about change...we are constantly growing with it. I have grades 2, 5, 7, and 9 so we are in the high school years now ~ it's a new ball game! :)

Mavis ~ It's all about balance! :)

You inspired me to make a couple of changes... thanks!! :)

Terri ~ I hope it is an encouragement and not like a weight around your neck ~ I would never want to be the cause of that for you!. Having said that, I am so glad you found something helpful.

Hi Camille, so, are these 'lists' that the children need to complete in a day? Do you have them follow them in order? Do they have to check them off as they do them? Do you have a built in accountability system to check if they are doing what needs to be done? This is where we fall down every time! Checking to see if they have completed their work!

thanks for the visual.

Hi Michelle ~ These are the schedules that we are using right now...there is actually another schedule that I did not show here which looks quite different in which I am not "needed" at all...a "bonus" day for Mum. :)

Time and circumstances will occasionally change the way we do things, but basically, the children are to check off the stuff as they do it. We begin together and work on the list in order. If you compare the lists you will see that they "mesh" and often two are tagged up with each other...hence the need to work through at the same time.

Whenever we begin the day is when the time gets slotted in...notice I don't have set times for things...just set amounts of time. I found this to be so critical as "life happens" and it was stressful to me if the day started "late". This way you can be flexible, but once the machine begins it tends to flow smoothly. No one is at a loss as to what they should be doing as it is written down. Eliminates "Mom, what do you want me to do now?" questions...which again is so stressful! :)

When the children were younger it looked different that it does now...as I am sure you can understand. I would do a list like this for the older ones and I would have more flexibility to be with the younger ones. I find it is so great to assign 30 minute segments of time to an older with a younger to do a specific task...even a chore.

It does take time to work out a schedule like this, but it definitely pays off! Accountability is when I get together with them for "tutor session"...keep tabs on them if you will. They are to mark their own work and be prepared for testing as that is how I know they are "on track". I am available to field questions during the "tutor session".

Does this make sense? If not, do feel free to ask...I am definitely not an expert. And please, like I said before, do what works for you! The last thing you need is more stress...only do this if it will benefit you. I find that it is a HUGE benefit to me and the peacefulness of our home.

But the key thing to remember is that the schedule is for you...to be a help and not a curse. You are in charge of it...not the other way around!

There are days when I declare a "non schedule" day...and other days we may only do half the schedule ~ the last half can always be completed the next day.

Have a wonderful week!
With Love,
