The Piano

I grew up playing the piano and took lessons most of my school years. When we got married I did not have a piano ~ it was a luxury we could not afford! It was ten years before a piano came into our home...a thirty year old gift from the Lord. I was expecting Emma at the time. The evenings were the only times I had to devote to playing. I was rusty ~ still am ~ but determined to learn some new music. Pachelbel's "Canon in D" was the piece I chose to devote time to learning. I loboured over it evening after evening and learned most of it during the last six months of my pregnancy with Emma.

One day when she was still a newborn we were home together ~ just the two of us.

She was fussy.

I rolled her bassinette over to the piano. "Canon in D" was the piece I chose to play. It brought tears to my eyes to watch her visibly relax and calm down. It was soothing to her! If you ask her today she will tell you her favourite music is "Canon in D" ~ how precious is that?

I love Pachelbel's "Canon" as well. What a neat testimony of your daughter being calmed by that piece. Will she be playing it someday?

Oh Christa ~ I hope so! She has wanted to play the piano for a very long time and this is her first year of lessons. So far it's been "Over the River and Through the Woods to Grandmother's House we go!" I can't tell you how many times I've listened to that piece...but she's got it! :)

Camille

Hi Camille!
I took lessons for 12 years! You would think with that much practice I would be able to play better, but, alas, it is a challenge to me still. I love classical music ~ that is what I learned to play taking lessons. I have two pianos, both given to me by my grandmother (I was raised by my grandparents) Now I have a piano for each daughter when they want to take them. They both took lessons for a time.
What a great story about your daughter! Canon in D is one of my favorites, also!
I think I will go look and see if I have the music right now! ;~D
Blessings!

Jenn ~ It was a visible confirmation to me that she really could hear while growing inside me! Such an incredible thought! :)

Lady Farmer ~ Oh...I totally understand the challenges...no one understands why I can't play in church! :) Did you notice it took me six months to learn that one piece?? How lovely that you have TWO pianos that are ear-marked for your girls! I hope they know how blessed they are!!

Becky ~ Welcome! Is that YOU?? I'm so glad you left a comment...

Janean ~ Opera...that's a new one! LOL! God is so good to us all isn't He? It was 30 years old when I was gifted it and it was hardly played...so in very good condition. But with 3 boys playing it I don't think the next 30 will be as kind! :)

Blessings,
Camille

I think THAT is a testimony to the precious sanctity of life! To the knitting together of your sweet Emma by our loving heavenly Father. I wonder if while He was still knitting her together, she heard you playing "Canon in D?" - and that is part of why it was so calming to her? Regardless, what a wonderful story! I'm so glad you shared.

Janean ~ It's a beautiful part of God's creation! Hope you come sometime!

J ~ Oh I have NO DOUBT that she heard it while being knit together inside...how amazing to think it!! What a Great and Mighty God we serve! We really have NO IDEA how marvelously we are put together do we? :)

Blessings,
Camille

I don't think I'll ever tire of Canon in D. It's actually programmed as my cell phone ringer! What a beautiful story. I should have tried something like that with my colicky one.

Heather ~ It was really amazing! Cool that you have Canon in D for your ringer! :)

Have a great night!

Canon in D is my favorite! I would love to find a good CD that had that piece on it.

Hi Stacie ~ Try WalMart or one of those stores that has a kiosk where you can listen before you buy. That's how I found my copies of it. :)

I love that piece too. I don't have a piano any more. I have a small keyboard that I rarely use. It's covered and I forget about it. Would like a bigger one someday. I guess I should play it as it would be fun again. Thanks for sharing!!!

Grandma Becky ~ I agree...you should get that piano uncovered and play! Enjoy it! :)
