Month Menu ~ An Update

I'm just in the planning stages of my second month-at-a-time menu.
The jury's out on the results for the first month.  I am pleased with the knowing.
But, the budget...did it fare better?  I am still trying to figure that out.

My plan is to start from scratch and make a menu

for the month of September.  Once I've followed it for
an entire calendar month, I will make an assessment of its merits.

My girl and I went to visit my sister, and while we were gone,
the boys went camping (with expensive food), and my sweetie
was stocked with frozen choices (homemade) and *extras*.
I think the budget took a hit due to our scatteredness (new word).

~ The boys' camping meal plan...dear me! ~

A few things I have learned (actually, they were confirmed) ~
eating out and eating boxed cereal will sabotage any budget.
So will exorbitant amounts of Nutella.  But, I digress.

On the positive side of things ~

incorporating beans and lentils and eggs as main
features of a meal will stretch the budget further.
So will cooking up whole chickens and making soup.
Can you think of other budget-friendly ideas?  I'd love to hear them.

Month number two will soon be on the docket.
I'll let you know how it goes.  Do you even want to know?
How about you?  Have you tried it yet?
September is nearly upon us...it's a good time to begin.  :)

Happy Monday Y'all!

With Love, Camille

I enjoy reading about your menu planning.
Our family's plans can change by the day, so it can sometimes be hard to plan too far ahead for our meals.
Also, our daughter Amy just moved out of the house, so it is now only my hubby, our son Jacob, and me. I now have to plan our meals differently once again...

Blessings,
Nadine

Oh, I love this idea! I have tried doing things like this in the past, but lately this season of life has been so busy, that all my plans have been overthrown! This is just the motivation I needed though to get everything back together :) So glad you posted it! Also on a side note, I nominated your blog for a Liebster Award! You can check out the details on our blog here: http://www.thecopperanchor.com/blog/2014/8/15/liebster-award. Love visiting this space, my friend. You always inspire me in SO many ways!

A week at a time is the best I've done. Although planning for the month sounds good. I might give it a try.

And Nutella does wreck a budget - but isn't it worth it? :-)

Dear Nadine ~ Wow! So many changes at once around your home and in your family!! How precious it is to embrace each stage of life...the Lord is good! :)

Dear Lisa ~ I am a planner, so, for me this is a good system. However, I like it to be a little flexible and this plan incorporates that. Let me know if you try it out...please? :)

Dear Melissa ~ LOL! I think it is! However, it's not safe in this house...it's reserved for things like camping and special occasions. :)

Oh my word! Can you believe grocery prices???!!! I've been thinking about this, too. we've done a lot of grilling this summer to avoid using the oven in the house because it has been so hot here, but that gets really expensive. I'm looking forward to the fall where I can do more casseroles and soups, which are much friendlier on the budget :) Another think that is killing us is that I'm not making my own bread products because of my aversion to using the oven. Hope that will change in the fall, too.

Kirsten here :) I would love to see an example of your monthly menu/budget! We are trying a budget of $150 per week for groceries. It's hard but doable!!
