Abundance

In our Western culture we are blessed ~ Abundantly.

We have running water and indoor plumbing.
We have food in the fridge, the pantry and the freezer.
If we don't have our own garden and chickens,
we have access to grocery stores where we can buy what we need.
We have hospitals and roads and cars and homes.

We have so much!

On this Monday I give thanks.
I give thanks to the Giver of all gifts ~ A Sacrifice of Praise.
HE is the ONE Who deserves our praise.
HE alone is Worthy.

I've been revisiting the thoughts I had when our niece
made a volunteering trip to Ghana.
I think of the Leper Colony she served.

I think of their thankfulness.

Thankfulness for clean bandages
to bind up stumps where feet used to be.
Thankfulness for new "Crocs" to wear and
they were determined to save them for Church!
They needed them everyday ~
but they didn't want to waste them on the everyday.

AMAZING.

How ashamed I am of my unthankfulness.
Unthankfulness in the midst of a multitude of blessings.
A multitude of mercies.

No matter how little we have.
No matter how much we think we need.
We are blessed. If we have the LORD ~ HE truly is enough.

Recently, and for the last six months
I have not had a dishwasher in my kitchen.
Is this a "hardship"?

NO.

A mere 35 years ago no one had one!
And God in HIS grace has given me a new one.
Did I *NEED* it?  No.
Am I thankful?  Yes!

The boys washed and dried many, many, many dishes.
I washed and dried many, many, many dishes.
There were always more to do.  What a blessing!
If there were dirty dishes in the sink (and on the counter),
it was an indication that we had eaten.

Abundance.

Austin and Fraser ~ a familiar sight these last six months...

...And...
the new dishwasher fully loaded and ready to run! :)

901. The new dishwasher ~

**Please do not feel sorry for me...it was my own doing ~
I was determined to get the *right* colour ~ see #907...fussy! :(

902. The loads and loads of dishes washed in that new dishwasher (already)
and it hasn't even been installed for one week yet!

903. Howie installed the dishwasher and did a GREAT job!

904. We saved at least $150 because he did it himself

905. It's QUIET ~ We even forget it's running!

906. It doesn't leak AND
it doesn't make the cupboards all steamy inside

907. It's the *wrong* colour ~ sounds funny, I know! ~
The *right* colour is no longer available in Canada,
so it is the next best choice.
It reminds me that this is not meant to be our HOME ~
HEAVEN is!!!

908. Love it that my new dishwasher points me to the LORD! :)

909. Our home is *old* and has been renovated (a few times) ~
It didn't originally have a dishwasher...the opening is
the *wrong* size.
We were fortunate to even find a dishwasher that would fit!!

Many Blessings, Camille

Aw, friend - 6 months without a dishwasher!?! Oh I remember a time before we had kids that we went without one for 2 weeks and THAT seemed long. Spoiled, I know. I ran ours twice yesterday - and thought of what a wonderful blessing to have such abundance that a family of four can fill up a dishwasher twice in one day. I'm working on being thankful to unload it. ;o)
Your list is once again so sweet and real. You see the beauty in the "mundane" and it's refreshing.
Blessings on you, kind friend!
Love,
Tami

Wanting What I Have said...

Camille,
I. LOVE. YOU!!!! You have me smiling ear to ear! And fully aware of what a brat I am. I am thinking of how spoiled I am and my little fits over ALL the dishes I had to wash. (Of course, I didn't have two strapping young lads to lend a hand, but still!) Thanks for always pointing me to the cross! I love and appreciate you dear friend!

Love,
Jennifer

Dear Tami ~ You bring a smile to my face my friend...thank you for your sweet encouragement! Yes, to be thankful when we unload it...that is the true test! :)

Dear Jennifer ~ I have been shocked at how the dishes accumulate! There is something appealing to go back to "Little House" days and have only one bowl and plate per person...don't you think? Again...abundance! I appreciate your honesty and willingness to be real, dear friend! You are right about the boys and their help...I would have caved in much sooner! :)

Dear Nadine ~ Thank you for being such a faithful friend in this blog-world. I appreciate you! :)

Blessings to you each one!
In His Love,
Camille

I love your music on here! I don't normally have my volume up because any music, mine included, distracts me when I read, but I'm so glad I am listening here, now. It's so peaceful!

Love the post!

What a wonderful post, Camille. Congrats on your new dishwasher!

The electricity in Josiah's room is completely not working. Before I would have panicked, but this time we decided that since it is only a bedroom, it isn't necessary until we can afford for an electrician to come fix it. We'll wait until we have the money. Josiah is real happy about it, but I hope it is a good lesson for him and that when he does get electricity in his room again, that he will be THANKFUL for it.

Isn't God wonderful? We take him and his blessings for granted everyday, don't we. For shame.

Thank you for pointing us back to Him, Friend!

Blessings and thank you so much for your encouraging comments on my blog.

I've never had a dishwasher (other than my hands and those of the boys). When Mr. Schrock's hands pitch in, it's an extra special blessing that is noted in the Thousand Gifts journal.

I kind of like doing dishes. There's something - elemental about it, a setting to rights of my domain.

But someday, I, too, shall have a dishwasher (of just the right color ;) and then that will be written in the TGJ.

Waving and smiling, friend.

Dear Cinnamon ~ I'm so glad you enjoyed the music...that makes me smile! :)

Dear Jackie ~ I'm sure he will be very thankful when that electricity is restored! How wonderful it is that you are teaching your children about living within your means...that will stay with them throughout life. :)

Dear Stacie ~ Oh yes...how MUCH I take forgranted!! May the LORD help us to daily see all HIS benefits! Thank YOU for your encouragement at your blog...it is a blessing to me. :)

Dear Linda ~ Thank you for your sweet words today! May the LORD always be magnified in all we do!! I'm glad we've connected too. :)

Dear Rhonda ~ The original title of this post was "On Being Spoiled"...maybe it should have remained! Never had a dishwasher? Wow!! I agree, there is something kind of nice about the washing of dishes, but once a dishwasher has been gotten used to...well...I suppose "spoiled" is the best way to describe it. I will be interested to know your thoughts once that dishwasher comes into your home. Waving and smiling back! :)

Dear Jenn ~ Yes, we truly are! Thank you for stopping by my friend! :)

Blessings to each one of you!

Camille

Congratulations on your dishwasher. We have one but it doesn't properly clean the dishes and always leaves a film, so we or I should say I, handwash them all.You are so very right to look at it as a blessing from a good meal on the table. Thanks for sharing this post.
blessings,
Jill

Love this post. It makes me laugh. I waited about a month or two to get my new one and thoroughly enjoyed washing by hand in between... because I knew there would be an end to it all :)
Yes, we are blessed.

The best years of my life were when my dishwasher went and I chose not to replace it for 4 years. Instead my children and I did the dishes together. I still love having my hands in hot soapy water - a warmth that reminds me of Jesus love for me. We had many wonderful conversations in those years of washing and drying! Blessings do flow abundantly on us if we stop to smell the roses!

Thanks for sparking that memory!

Blessings to you and your family.

Dear Jill ~ How blessed we all are...don't you think? Wow...you hand wash everything? You are a trooper! I admit it...I like my servants. :)

Dear Heather ~ Yes, an end in sight...that always helps! Thanks for your input today...I'm put to shame that you actually enjoyed the hand-washing...you are a blessing to your family. :)

Dear Stephanie ~ You are right...many great conversations can be had around the dish duties...I really desire to relish the moments more! Thank you for the prod in the right direction and your insight today. :)

Blessings to you all!
