Our Real Home

"Whatever kind of tribulation we may suffer, this should always be our goal:
to learn contempt for the present life, and thus
to be led to meditate on the life to come.

Because the Lord well knows our readiness to embrace the world with
blind and even brutish love, he uses the very best means
to part us from it and to rouse us from our lethargy,
so as to free our hearts from so foolish an attachment."

"It is appalling to think that many who boast they are Christians,
instead of desiring death, dread it so much that the very mention
of it makes them quake, as if it were the worst misfortune that could befall them.

It is not surprising if we feel unsettled and distraught
when we hear that our body must be parted from our soul.

However, it is unthinkable that a Christian heart should be
so lacking in light that it cannot overcome its fear by turning
to a higher source of comfort.

If we reflect that this bodily tabernacle which is weak,
flawed, corruptible, transient and decaying is dissolved and
well nigh destroyed, in order to be restored to a perfect,
assured, incorruptible and heavenly glory, does not faith compel us
fervently to crave what nature shuns and abhors?

When we remember that death calls us away from a miserable exile
to our real home in heaven, how can we not find a
precious consolation in that?"

Those are words of truth my friend. Words I needed to hear today. I have been missing my mama so much. It's all still so raw. But your words are so timely for my hurting heart.
I know our pains are different, but I thankful for your constant voice of truth when my grief feels too much to carry.
I'm so thankful this is our temporary home.

I believe the reason we fight death so much is that God has set eternity in our hearts. We can never get used to it, even though we know that it will happen. Praise God that it doesn't end there and that those who believe in Jesus have a hope for a future beyond this present life on earth. What He has waiting for us on the other side is unfathomable joy and beauty. We just have to remind ourselves of that over and over as it certainly doesn't come naturally to us humans as we miss those who've gone before us and strive to hold on to the only life we know. Hugs and prayers to you my friend!

Such truth Camille. I admit to fearing death in my anxious moments. Great to read this and be reminded of the wonderful truths and promises for those that trust in the Lord!

Yes it is true that our real home is not here…it is heaven. I truly look forward to the days when we are in heaven. I don't desire death, but I do desire life with HIm forever… and with those I love who have gone before. I do ache at the separation of our loved ones… I especially feel for you Camille, because I don't think it gets much harder than the loss of a child. And yet, as you remind us, this is not our real home, others have gone before us and will be waiting for us. Thanks for the post. Have a great week.
Love and Blessings,
Pam
